Osmo, 2025
Acrylic and chalk on canvas
120 X 80cm
Osmo forms part of a series of five paintings inspired by perfumes sourced from around the world. Each work translates scent into colour, texture, and atmosphere.
This piece draws from Osmo by Andrea Maack, a fragrance rooted in Iceland’s elemental landscape. It captures the quiet duality of a place where water, wind, and light continually shape the terrain. Soft gradations of blue dissolve into pale mist, suggesting the meeting of sea and sky. The composition holds a tension between solidity and transparency, echoing the perfume’s balance of mineral freshness and depth.
Notes of cold salinity, bright orange, and pink pepper run through the work like flickers of contrast, where icy freshness meets vivid warmth. Beneath this brightness, oakmoss and orris lend an earthy stillness, reflected in the layered blues and muted tones that evoke the salt, stone, and clarity of the North Atlantic. Osmo becomes an abstract memory of a landscape both raw and serene, suspended between stillness and movement.
